d&a treats hummus as the meal, not the side dish. Big bowls arrive with homemade pita, pickles and salads, then branch out into everything from fried cauliflower and falafel to chicken, roasted vegetables and lamb-and-beef toppings. Around them sit shakshuka, mezze and the sort of smaller plates that make ordering with other people much more fun.

The Westerstraat location is an easy fit for a relaxed Jordaan lunch or dinner. Come hungry and resist everyone ordering in isolation — this menu makes much more sense when the table becomes a spread and everybody starts stealing from everybody else’s plate.
