Grey Area has never needed much room to make an impression. This tiny Oude Leliestraat coffeeshop built an international reputation around the cannabis itself: knowledgeable service, a specialist menu and house names that have been part of Amsterdam’s scene for decades.

Don’t come expecting a sprawling lounge. Seating is scarce and the room is intimate, which is precisely why Grey Area works best as a focused stop — talk to the budtender, take your time over the menu and soak up a little of the history. Afterwards you’re perfectly placed for the Nine Streets, Jordaan and the canals around Dam.
