Hill Street Blues is the kind of place that feels lived-in rather than designed. The Warmoesstraat bar is covered in graffiti and stickers, with worn-in couches, drinks and a downstairs stretch looking onto the canal. It does not sell cannabis, so bring your own; indoor cannabis smoking has been confirmed in person.

It works best when you want somewhere central to settle in rather than another quick stop. Centraal, Damrak and the Red Light District are all close, but once you are inside it feels slightly removed from the rush outside. Go for the scruffy, social atmosphere, grab a drink and stay a while.
