About
One of the oldest botanical gardens in the world, laid out in 1638 and still compact enough to cross in ten minutes if you rush, which would be the wrong way to use it. The draw is the glasshouses: a three-climate palm house where the air changes temperature as you walk, a butterfly greenhouse, and outdoor beds arranged by plant family with a café courtyard in the middle.
It’s a quiet, slow, texture-heavy place a few minutes from ARTIS in the Plantage, and it rewards standing still. Go for the smells and the humidity rather than the labels. Be clear on the rules before you arrive: the garden and glasshouses are smoke-free, and the use, possession or trade of drugs is strictly forbidden inside.

Better after a smoke
