Long-running Surinamese warung in De Pijp for roti, rice dishes and loaded sandwiches.
Spang Makandra has the feel of a neighbourhood institution: fast-moving, generous and built around Surinamese comfort food rather than polished dining-room theatre. Roti, rice plates and sandwiches make it easy to order according to how hungry you actually are.
It is a strong De Pijp option when you want something filling, flavour-heavy and unfussy. The later Friday and Saturday hours also make it useful once the daytime cafés have already shut.
